HRS Control To Distribute Powerful Picturall

Octo Media Server with 8K Play Back

Lake Orion, MI (May, 2013) – HRS Control is pleased to announce that it has become the exclusive distributor of Picturall Octo in the U.S. The Finland-made Picturall Octo media server offers the easiest, most powerful and most cost-effective solution for multiscreen video installations. It can play back 16 full HD video layers and is the first media server in the world to play back full 8K resolution media. It is ideal for both rental staging and fixed installations, including theater, concert touring, museums, broadcast and unique signage configurations.

“Picturall Octo stands out from the competition because of the amount of power it offers in one box,” says Drew Taylor at HRS Control. “It’s designed for applications with a lot of different displays. Octo has eight DVI dual-link outputs each of which can run at a dual-link resolution of 2x 1080p. With external splitters you can get up to 32 independent DVI outputs at 720p each – all fully configurable with warping, image manipulation, blending and more.”

Picturall Octo runs on the rock solid Linux operating system and is controllable using Picturall Commander, free remote-control software with a highly efficient user interface. It is also controllable via DMX, Art-Net and TCP/IP or with HRS Controls’ UDC (Universal Device Controller) software.

“A new version of Commander, which has been totally revamped with more cueing, macro executions and presets, is expected to be officially released at InfoComm,” Taylor reports.

Octo’s robust, powerful video engine delivers a playback performance of more than 16 layers of full HD video and provides 48 media layers with position, scaling, rotation, color correction, effects, alpha channel and more. The system also boasts a built-in cutting-edge 3D effects generator.

Octo is easily set up: The whole system can be installed in minutes. A simple but versatile display set up and built-in EDID manager are used to line up even the most complex display set ups in less than an hour.

HRS Control is also distributing Picturall Octo+, a new version of the Octo media server, equipped with enhanced hardware capable of running media up to 8K. “With a faster processor, Octo+ is targeted to very high-resolution content needs,” says Taylor.

Picturall Octo has been used to display images from the Vancouver Winter Olympics on an innovative multi-screen set for a Dutch broadcaster; run high-resolution media content on a giant LED screen during the opening ceremonies for the ShenZhen Universiade in China; help create one of the world’s largest holographic projections at the Tian Long Yuan Theatre in Beijing; and run the media content for a staggering 3,010 square-meter display that comprised the Qin Han Tang Emporium’s Sky Screen in Xi’an, China.

HRS Control has demo units of Picturall Octo available now. Octo and Octo+ may be rented or purchased from HRS Contol, which also offers operator training to customers.

UDC Timecode Makes its Debut at Trade Shows with Riverview Systems Group

Lake Orion, MI (April, 2013) – Corporate event production company Riverview Systems Group Inc. of Milpitas, California has become the first company to utilize UDC Timecode, a new feature in the Protocol Translation portion of High Resolution Systems’ UDC Pro Plus package. UDC Timecode enables users of the popular UDC (Universal Device Controller) Software to sync with external timecode or turn UDC in to a timecode generator itself.

Riverview often needs to automate video and lighting cues simultaneously at clients’ trade show booths. “A couple of systems would allow us to do that, but they required complicated programming and took a lot of resources to implement,” says Derek C. Ytreeide, technology specialist with Riverview Systems Group.

“We had worked with Drew and Mike Taylor at High Resolution before and became familiar with UDC,” he continues. “We had a client who needed a big video playback system at a trade show. We figured UDC would work perfectly to trigger the video, but we had to go further – we needed to trigger the lighting cues, too. We could stripe timecode on the video roll or use an external timecode generator. But UDC had an internal timecode generator already, so High Resolution explored programming UDC to send out a timecode signal, using a Kiss-Box transceiver in between. Once High Resolution wrote the code, we tested the new UDC Timecode feature and decided to use it on the trade show.”

UDC Timecode made its debut at the RSA security conference in San Francisco for Riverview client Symantec. “Conference goers walked into the theater in the Symantec booth where three 90-inch and eight 40-inch plasmas played individual videos all synchronized at the same time from five playback machines,” Ytreeide explains. “We needed to trigger a library of three videos and an interstitial loop simultaneously from Playback Pro plus six lighting cues from a grandMA2 system.”

An additional complication was that Symantec wanted to tailor the videos displayed on the plasmas depending on what client walked into the theater. The videos would not play in a scheduled or random order.

“A lot of systems are timeline-based with scheduled events; few are cue-based using cues independent of each other,” Ytreeide notes. “UDC Timecode proved to be an amazing solution for us, allowing us to do what Symantec required.”

Riverview was so pleased with UDC Timecode that it decided to implement the software at the Association of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) conference in Chicago for client their Zimmer.

“UDC Timecode will act as central control software performing two different functions: generating timecode to control the grandMA2 lighting console in the main theater and generating timecode for two sub-theaters where videos are shown but not on a set schedule,” he explains. “We’ll have absolute control of the house lights and videos and can trigger the videowall to funnel people from the theater to a hands-on demo experience.”

UDC Timecode is available now for customers who have a Protocol Translation license on UDC Pro Plus.

UDC Raptor Embedded Control Server Now Shipping from HRS Control

Lake Orion, MI (May, 2013) – High Resolution Systems is now shipping UDC Pro ECS-Raptor, a UDC Pro Embedded Control Server designed for permanent AV installs. Raptor will be showcased in High Resolution Systems’ booth at InfoComm13, June 8-14 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando booth # 4089.

Raptor teams up with the company’s popular UDC software to offer a cost-effective, stable hardware/software solution for long-term installations in a wide range of environments. A custom Linux embedded server, Raptor significantly lowers costs to users over full-blown Windows servers and comes with a free version of UDC software so customers can build their workflow configuration with UDC software, load it onto Raptor, test and run their UDC configuration.

“We expect most customers will pay for an upgrade to UDC Pro software, which allows them to send all their commands from UDC software to their Windows computer before loading onto Raptor,” notes Drew Taylor at HRS Control.

Raptor supports the same user interfaces as UDC software: iPad touch control with the HRS Control Pro iOS app available in Apple’s App Store; the HRS Control Pro app for any Windows tablet; in-wall mount touchscreen and button solutions; Android tablets; and web servers. Any device with a browser can act as a controller.

Raptor comes with an Ethernet connection to the device network plus two USB ports for accessories and button control panels. It occupies 1RU in height and one-half of a rack in width and ships with an optional rack shelf for space-saving rack mounting.

Raptor’s first installation saw one system dedicated to an executive briefing room, which needed extensive device control, and a second unit filling the needs of the rest of the facility. “Even with two Raptors, this was still a very cost-effective solution for the integrator,” Taylor reports.

UDC AJA Gang Control Debuts From HRS Control

Lake Orion, MI (April 24, 2013) – HRS Control has introduced AJA Gang Control for its popular Universal Device Controller (UDC), which allows users to take control of the full family of AJA products from the UDC software and any tablet, touch- or web-enabled device. The AJA product lines supported include FS2, FS1, the Ki Pro family and KUMO.

HRS Control developed AJA Gang Control after offering selected customers AJA Ki Pro control for live event playback. “To meet their needs we added Ki Pro control to UDC software,” says Drew Taylor at High Resolution Systems. “AJA really liked what we were doing and recommended our software to their customers. Then we began working with AJA on custom configurations within UDC, pre-configuring the system so it can be used on a daily basis or as a training tool that can be customized further.”

Cost-effective UDC AJA Gang Control provides AJA product users with the features that have made UDC software so popular across the board: Macros, Web Server, Scheduling, Variables and Logic. Five custom controller interfaces are available for software or web server control; downloadable Apple iPad and Windows tablet apps are free of charge and the software works on Android through the web browser.

USB button panel controllers can be added to the software and rack mount button panels are also available.

Several features are tailored specifically to AJA Ki Pro. Start/stop records on multiple Ki Pros can be triggered with a press of a button or automated by time of day. Customers can get clip lists and playlist information from multiple Ki Pros and load clips and play multiple Ki Pros.

UDC Ki Pro File Management permits simultaneous file transfers over the network on multiple files across multiple Ki Pros. File transfers for archiving to local or network drives can be activated by a press of the button or via time of day with UDC scheduling.

“Ki Pro File Management is a cool new tool that streamlines file transfer for back up or archiving,” says Taylor. “It makes it easy to automate transfers, schedule them and have one-button control.”

AJA KUMO users also have KUMO matrix control with real time status updates and switching, a feature originally developed for other routers and now available for the AJA KUMO routers.

HRS Control has also introduced UDC AJA Gang Control Plus, which offers everything available in AJA Gang Control plus two additional features that enable broadcasters to group AJA devices from the technical director position. First, Protocol Translation translates known incoming control protocols to any outgoing AJA product. Supported protocols include PBUS, VDCP, Art-Net, DMX, MIDI, MOS and more.

Second, UDC Time Code allows users to execute control based on time code or deploy UDC software to generate time code. This additional feature utilizes network based time code or a third-party network interface box for LTC and MIDI time code interfacing.

UDC AJA Gang Control is a cost-effective software package for AJA product users, Taylor points out. “We’re offering it at a lower price than our UDC Pro software because it’s limited to control of AJA devices. But we provide the ability to upgrade to a full UDC Pro license at anytime. Users who choose to upgrade will be able to unlock the rest of the features and gain full control of any device that UDC supports.”

UDC AJA Gang Control is now shipping.
